When should you start your scholarship search?
Start your scholarship search as early as possible! While some scholarships are specifically for high school seniors, doing your research ahead of time can open up many opportunities, no matter what stage you’re in—whether you’re in middle school, high school, college, or even graduate school, there are scholarships for you too! Senior Year Head Start includes scholarships for students 14 years of age and younger.
Many of the largest scholarship programs have deadlines early in the academic year, so it’s essential to begin your search in the fall. This proactive approach gives you the best chance to find and apply for scholarships that fit your needs.
Don’t wait until the last minute or the start of a new semester—take the initiative now! Knowing what’s available to you and applying early can make a significant difference in funding your education. Start your scholarship journey today, and set yourself up for success.
Can you start too early?
Starting your college scholarship research before high school might seem early, but it can actually set you up for success! By beginning now, you’ll build a strong foundation of resources by your senior year. Plus, getting involved in activities you’re passionate about will help you grow as a well-rounded student and enhance your scholarship applications.
Consider taking the PSAT early, too! This can give you a head start on preparation for eleventh grade, especially for National Merit scholarship opportunities. Can you start too late?
Yes. If you’re hoping to win a full ride scholarship, late spring and early summer of your senior year is too late. Scholarships are still available at this time and may also be easier to win, so they shouldn’t be ignored, but the amounts you can win will be smaller. All hope is not lost-you can still win scholarships if you’re already enrolled in college. Just remember – the largest scholarship programs generally have earlier deadlines, even for college students.
