Getting Involved Can Help You Win Scholarships - The Scholarship Workshop | How to Get Scholarships

Active participation and leadership in clubs, extracurricular, community and volunteer activities helps differentiate you from other students. This will help you win scholarship money and also give you a lot to write about in your essays.

They can pay off in another way too. If you are a member of the following clubs and organizations, you may be eligible for a scholarship directly from or through the organization.

If you continue your participation in some of the organizations above as a college student, you may still be eligible to enter their scholarship competition.

Marianne has specialized workshops for high school and middle school students, current college students, and graduate students. In the past few months she’s conducted The Scholarship Boot Camp (VIRTUAL) for the University of Georgia TRIO programs, the Greater Washington Urban League (Washington, DC) and the pre-college programs at Thomas University (Thomasville, GA), Navigating the College Process for Reston Community Center, The Scholarship and College Essay Writing Boot Camp for Savannah State University (Savannah, GA) and Mount Zion Baptist Church (Arlington, VA), and The Scholarship Workshop with Essay Writing Focus for the Hyattsville/Landover Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. She just conducted a session for college students at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California.

Upcoming Scholarship Deadlines

FOR CURRENT COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL AND IN SOME CASES, YOUNGER STUDENTS (ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE)

May 20 (early application deadline) – Cameron Impact Scholarship

Regular application deadline: September 9. This scholarship is intended to cover the full tuition and ‘qualified educational expenses’ (as defined by the Internal Revenue Service) at your chosen collegiate institution. For example, your tuition, fees, and books will be paid for by the scholarship. However room and board will not be covered. This scholarship is available to high school seniors. This scholarship has a limit of 3000 applications. Apply EARLY. If 3000 applications are received before the deadline, the application window will close.

June 12 – Spokeo Digital Identity Scholarship – 2022 Essay Contest – $5000 scholarship essay contest open to students at least 18 years of age.

June 13 – 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest – prizes up to $1500 available to students 11 through 18.
